The first thing you need to do his really get at look at the damage to the dining chair that needs repair. is it a few small rips or tears that can be fixed easily?? Or is it something bigger? Is it completely coming loose from where it attaches to the chair? Depending on the answer to these questions your repair options may be different.

Simple Repairs

If a seam has come lose or there is a small rip in your dining chair you may be able to make a repair to this on your own at home. First, look at the area that is ripped. If it is a very small rip you may be able to use a needle and the same color of threat to sew it closed again.

Another thing you may want to consider while making a small repair is to purchase a fray blocker. A fray blocker can be found that most at fabric stores. What it will do is keep the fabric from fraying any further than it already has. As you may have noticed, when fabric comes loose from it's the chair many pieces of the threads start to unravel. This can make a small tear much worse in no time. But, using a fray blocker on that area that you are sewing can stop this from happening in the future.

Unfortunately, not all repairs are small repairs. So, if your dining chair needs a little more work done then it may be time for re upholstery. You can try to do this yourself or have someone to have for you. Your decision will depend on how well you sew. Additionally, how good are you with this type of do-it-yourself project? If you are not, you may want to leave it to the professionals. You need to consider the difficulty of the construction in the dining chair that you are repairing. Some chairs have very simple construction with one piece of cloth to cover a smooth area. Others have a number of embellishments and accents that will require much more work and patience. These are often best left to a professional

If you are willing to try to do the work yourself, you are going to need matching fabric to replace the current fabric with. If you can find it at your local craft store or fabric store, you may want to call the manufacturer of your dining set. Tell them about your dining chair and see if they can send you or sell you a piece of fabric to make the repair.
